NILAI – 200 asnaf students of Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) have received contributions from the Bakul Rahmah Aid in the form of dry food provisions and cash amounting to RM20,000 from Takaful Malaysia Berhad.

The replica cheque presentation of the zakat contribution was handed over by Mr. Yassir Azlin, Chief Distribution Officer of Takaful Malaysia, to Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Sharifudin Md Shaarani, Vice-Chancellor of USIM, as a symbolic gesture of the Bakul Rahmah Aid.

Takaful Malaysia Berhad is one of the leading takaful operators in Malaysia, divided into two entities: Takaful Malaysia Berhad as the parent company owning 100% of Takaful Malaysia Am, with the vision, “In My Heart, Takaful Malaysia.”

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dato’ Ts. Dr. Sharifudin Md Shaarani, in his speech, mentioned that the Bakul Rahmah Aid Distribution Program this year has allocated a total funding of RM73,000 to 600 USIM students, thanks to contributions from corporate bodies, including banking institutions and takaful companies.

“USIM undertakes various initiatives to assist in the development and welfare of students, especially those in need, including asnaf students. Other ongoing efforts include semesterly zakat assistance, full study sponsorships, student facility aid, including those affected by disasters, and student medical aid,” said the USIM Vice-Chancellor.

“Poverty is not a barrier to success, and we hope that the contributions received will serve as a stepping stone for them to remain motivated to change their fate and eventually become contributors in the future,” he added.

The program, organised by the USIM Endowment and Zakat Center (PWZ), was held at the Executive Lounge, Tuanku Muhriz Islamic Complex, on June 5, 2024. Also present at the event were Associate Professor Dr. Mushaddad Hasbullah, Director of PWZ, and Associate Professor Dr. Syahnaz Sulaiman, Deputy Director of PWZ.
