NILAI – Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kedah State Mufti Department (JMNK) at the Executive Lounge, Chancellery Building on June 5, 2024. The ceremony was attended by the Kedah State Mufti, Sahibus Samahah Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Paduka Sheikh Fadzil Bin Haji Awang, the Deputy Mufti, and officers from the Kedah State Mufti Department.

The purpose of this Memorandum of Understanding is to strengthen cooperation between USIM and the Kedah State Mufti Department in the fields of research, education, and the development of Islamic knowledge. Through this MoU, both parties have agreed to conduct various programs and activities based on a more holistic and comprehensive approach to Islamic studies.

Among the initiatives being implemented through this collaboration are industrial student exchange programs, the development of the e-tauliah teaching project, and the research project on the critical edition of the tafsir of Surah Yasin written by Sheikh Idris al-Marbawi.

The Vice-Chancellor of USIM, Yang Berbahagia Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Sharifudin Bin Md Shaarani, stated that this cooperation aligns with USIM’s objective to elevate Islamic education and integrate it into the mainstream national education system. “Collaboration with the Kedah State Mufti Department is a strategic step in our efforts to enhance Islamic education to be more inclusive and relevant to current needs,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Kedah State Mufti, Sahibus Samahah Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Paduka Sheikh Fadzil Bin Haji Awang, welcomed this cooperation and emphasised the importance of synergy between higher education institutions and religious departments in strengthening and expanding the appreciation of Islamic knowledge among the community. “This MoU will not only benefit both parties but also the ummah as a whole,” he added.

This MoU is led by the Center for the Treasure of Turath Knowledge (U-KIT) and the Center for Professional and Continuing Education (USIM PACE). With the signing of this MoU, it is hoped that the cooperation between USIM and the Kedah State Mufti Department will continue to grow and have a lasting positive impact on the field of Islamic education and research in Malaysia.
